Going in completely spoiler-free this time around and… this chapter explains a bunch of stuff. His words on the wall aimed at Reiner and Bertolt during the Shiganshina arc were as literal as you can get. He has given up and stuck to this one perspective he learned and knows, which in turn was created by how the system of Marley dehumanizes the Eldians and how the Eldians respond to that dehumanization. Technically he is fighting, but also not, as he has no fight in him left. The enivornment Marley created kind of destroyed him emotionally and unlike the restorationists being turned into Titans to stop them from fighting the regime, instead took away his will to fight back above all else.

Just like Reiner, Zeke is revealed to have been the weakest of the Warrior candidates when he enlisted. He was also subjected to attempted brainwashing from both sides of his family. Because of how both sides constantly tried to influence his decisions and worldview, Zeke rarely experienced love from his family in his childhood. The way his parents, Dina and Grisha, treated him is borderline emotionally abusive.
